Course Description
Develops critical thinking and writing skills in close textual analysis of issues and themes in fiction, poetry, and drama as well as in non-fictional literature and literary criticism. Reviews deductive and inductive reasoning, recognition and avoidance of logical fallacies, and relationships between language and meaning while emphasizing detailed critical analysis. Course Credit Limitations: Credit will not be awarded for both honors and regular versions of a course. Credit will be awarded only for the first course completed with a grade of “C” or better or "P". Moorpark College Honors Program requires a letter grade. Field trips may be required. Course Description
This course includes lecture and laboratory studies concerning microbes: bacteria, fungi, protists, animals, and viruses, with an emphasis on bacterial physiology, virulence, staining, classification, metabolism, growth, and the effects of physical and chemical agents on bacteria. The course includes study of microorganisms affecting humans, principles of disease transmission, disease prevention, immunity, and biotechnology. Required safety items include a lab coat, gloves, and ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses. Prerequisites: CHEM V120 or CHEM V101 or CHEM V104 with grade of "C" or better; and BIOL V04 or PHSO V01 or AG V66 or equivalent with grade of "C" or better. Field trips may be required. Course Description
This course is an introduction to statistical thinking and processes, including methods and concepts for discovery and decision-making using data. Topics include descriptive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; statistical inference; correlation and linear regression; analysis of variance, chi-squared, and t-tests; and application of technology for statistical analysis including the interpretation of the relevance of the statistical findings. Students apply methods and processes to applications using data from a broad range of disciplines. Successful completion of this course fulfills the mathematics competency requirement for the AA/AS degree. Notes: Prior to Common Course Numbering, this course was known as MATH V44. Prerequisites: Placement as determined by the college's multiple measures assessment process or completion of a course taught at or above the level of intermediate algebra. Transfer credit: CSU; UC.
