Course Description
Develops critical thinking and writing skills in close textual analysis of issues and themes in fiction, poetry, and drama as well as in non-fictional literature and literary criticism. Reviews deductive and inductive reasoning, recognition and avoidance of logical fallacies, and relationships between language and meaning while emphasizing detailed critical analysis. Honors work challenges students to be more analytical and creative through expanded assignments, real-world applications and enrichment opportunities. Course Credit Limitations: Credit will not be awarded for both the honors and regular versions of a course. Credit will be awarded only for the first course completed with a grade of “C” or better or "P". Moorpark College Honors Program requires a letter grade. Prerequisites: ENGL C1000 or ENGL C1000H. This course includes lecture and laboratory studies concerning microbes: bacteria, fungi, protists, animals, and viruses, with an emphasis on bacterial physiology, virulence, staining, classification, metabolism, growth, and the effects of physical and chemical agents on bacteria. The course includes study of microorganisms affecting humans, principles of disease transmission, disease prevention, immunity, and biotechnology. Required safety items include a lab coat, gloves, and ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses. Prerequisites: CHEM V120 or CHEM V101 or CHEM V104 with grade of "C" or better; and BIOL V04 or PHSO V01 or AG V66 or equivalent with grade of "C" or better. Field trips may be required.
