Course Description
Presents an overview of the disciplines of community and public health. Includes the basic concepts and terminologies of public health; an overview of various public health professions and organizations; the study, prevention and control of diseases in the community; the analysis of the social determinants of health; strategies for eliminating disease, illness, and health disparities among various populations; community organizing and health promotion programming; school health promotion; environmental health and safety; and an overview of the healthcare delivery system in the United States. Emphasizes the development of knowledge and preliminary skills to serve as an effective advocate for community and public health. Field trips may be required. Recommended Prep: Eligible for English Composition (ENGL C1000/M01A) or placement as determined by the college's multiple measures assessment process. Transfer credit: CSU; UC.

Course Description
This course is an introduction to statistical thinking and processes, including methods and concepts for discovery and decision-making using data. Topics include descriptive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; statistical inference; correlation and linear regression; analysis of variance, chi-squared, and t-tests; and application of technology for statistical analysis including the interpretation of the relevance of the statistical findings. Students apply methods and processes to applications using data from a broad range of disciplines. Course Credit Limitations: MC, CSU, and UC - Credit will not be awarded for both the honors and regular versions of a course. Credit will be awarded only for the first course completed with a grade of “C” or better or "P". Moorpark College Honors Program requires a letter grade. Introduces basic cartographic principles including map types, scales, projections, coordinate systems, as well as an introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology and software. Provides hands-on experience through the application of GIS technology to solve spatial problems and display geographic data. Introduces the application and relevance of GIS in a diverse set of academic disciplines and professional industries such as anthropology, archeology, geology, geography, urban planning, cartography, environmental science, emergency management, education, water resources, ethnic studies, criminal justice, law enforcement, military, security, political science, sociology, infectious disease control, engineering, and marketing analytics.
