Course Description
This course presents the basic operating principles and techniques of the conventional surface water treatment processes of coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, and filtration, plus those of disinfection processes. The more advanced technologies of water softening and fluoridation are also covered. Assists in preparation for Grade T1 and T2 Water Treatment Plant Operator's Certificate examination given by the State of California Water Resources Control Board. Field trips may be required. Transfer credit: CSU.

Course Description
This course includes lecture and laboratory studies concerning microbes: bacteria, fungi, protists, animals, and viruses, with an emphasis on bacterial physiology, virulence, staining, classification, metabolism, growth, and the effects of physical and chemical agents on bacteria. The course includes study of microorganisms affecting humans, principles of disease transmission, disease prevention, immunity, and biotechnology. Required safety items include a lab coat, gloves, and ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses. Prerequisites: CHEM V120 or CHEM V101 or CHEM V104 with grade of "C" or better; and BIOL V04 or PHSO V01 or AG V66 or equivalent with grade of "C" or better. Field trips may be required.
