In this course, students receive instruction in academic reading and writing, including writing processes, effective use of language, analytical thinking, and the foundations of academic research. Emphasizes expository writing and research, demonstrating principles of thesis and support, rhetorical organization, control of diction, clear sentence and paragraph construction, and command of the conventions of English usage. Develops analytical and interpretive reading skills. Field trips may be required. Prerequisites: Placement as determined by the college's multiple measures assessment process. This course is an introduction to statistical thinking and processes, including methods and concepts for discovery and decision-making using data. Topics include descriptive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; statistical inference; correlation and linear regression; analysis of variance, chi-squared, and t-tests; and application of technology for statistical analysis including the interpretation of the relevance of the statistical findings. Students apply methods and processes to applications using data from a broad range of disciplines. Course Credit Limitations: MC, CSU, and UC - Credit will not be awarded for both the honors and regular versions of a course. Covers limits, continuity, differentiation and integration of algebraic functions. Teaches differentiation and integration of transcendental functions with applications. Prepares students to render pre-hospital basic life support at the scene of an emergency, during transport of the sick and injured, or during inter-facility transfer. Introduces topics in the field of emergency care including anatomy, physiology, patient assessment, medical and traumatic emergencies and injuries. Corequisites: EMT M01L. Recommended Prep: NS M19.
