Course Description
This course is for biological and health science majors. General, organic, and biological chemistry are studied with an emphasis placed on medical applications. Topics in general chemistry will include the modern view of the atom, molecule structure, chemical formulas, and chemical reactions. Topics in organic chemistry will include hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, amines, and amides. Topics in biochemistry will include carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and metabolism. Prerequisites: MATH V01, or one year of high school algebra, or placement as determined by the college's multiple measures assessment process. Field trips may be required. Course Description
This course analyzes the biological, psychological, and sociocultural aspects of women's health, and explores health services, health education, and healthcare delivery systems. Social determinants of health and health inequities are examined, as well as contemporary issues relating to LGBTQ+ rights, racism, ageism, gender stereotypes and gender roles, politics, and the role of women in the family, workforce, community, and society.
