The California state funded California College Promise Grant (CCPG) provides funds to help low-income students pay the enrollment fee. Students may apply for the CCPG in one of two ways: 

Submit a FAFSA (https://fafsa.ed.gov) or a California Dream Act application (csac.ca.gov/california-dream-act), or 

Apply for the CCPG during the application window.

The CCPG is for California residents only, as determined by your College Admissions Office. To determine if you qualify for the CCPG Waiver, contact your college’s Financial Aid Office. 

The CCPG only applies to enrollment fees. It does not pay the Health Fee or any other educational costs. If you need money to help with books, supplies, food, rent, transportation and other costs, please complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a California Dream Act application. 

Note: Under the provisions of AB 131, students who are exempt from paying nonresident tuition under Education Code Section 68130.5 (AB 540) are eligible to participate in the California College Promise Grant program.  

The California Dream Act of 2011, states that once undocumented immigrant students are admitted to a California public college you can submit the California Nonresident Tuition Exemption Request. As long as you maintain continuous enrollment once you have been granted the exemption you will continue to be charged the in-state tuition rate. 

California Dream Act of 2011 became law through the passage of two Assembly Bills, AB 130 and AB 131. 

AB 130 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria (California Education Code 68130.5(a)) to apply for and receive non-state funded scholarships for public colleges and universities. 

AB 131 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria to apply for and receive state-funded financial aid such as institutional grants, community college fee waivers, Cal Grant and Chafee Grant.

The Financial Aid Offices at Moorpark College, Oxnard College and Ventura College each host a Cash for College workshop to meet and consult with financial aid advisors. The events are held in the fall and spring. They are free and open to the public. 

There are several types of financial aid that you can access as a student to help with your educational costs. The first step in the process of applying for student aid is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is required to get any financial aid from the federal government to help pay for college. FAFSA information is confidential and used to determine which students get financial aid, and how much you will receive.
