Course Description
This course will prepare the student to apply for certification to practice as a nurse assistant, providing care to clients in a variety of health care settings. Theory presentation will be coordinated with clinical practice in skilled nursing facilities to complete the state required curriculum including topics such as patient rights, interpersonal skills, safety, asepsis, clinical skills, nutrition, rehabilitation, documentation and death and dying. Upon completion of this course with a grade of C or better, the student will be eligible to take the certification exam from the California Department of Public Health. Field trips may be required. Notes: Each student must have a valid Social Security Card (SSN) or an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) to apply to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) for certification and to obtain a background check; the California Department of Public Health may deny certification to those with criminal records. In this course, students learn and apply foundational rhetorical theories and techniques of public speaking in a multicultural democratic society.
