This course surveys the history of the United States from the colonial period through Reconstruction. Emphasis will be placed on the history of the country with a focus on the role and participation of women in the development of American society, its social, political, and economic institutions. This course presents a survey and analysis of United States history from the Civil War to the present, with emphases on the role and history of Native Americans, changing United States Indian policy, and the interactions between divergent cultures. The course emphasizes basic American social, political, economic, and intellectual concepts and developments of the country in general, and the impact of/on Native American peoples in particular.
