Surveys American fiction, non-fiction, and poetry from the colonial period to the end of the Civil War. Includes works of Bradstreet, Edwards, Franklin, Poe, Melville, Hawthorne, Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, Dickinson, Equiano, and Stowe. Prerequisites: ENGL C1000 or ENGL C1000H.
