This course is an introduction to the science of life, cell biology, metabolism, diet, genetics, evolution and ecology and will include current issues and news on these topics. Credit will not be awarded for both the regular and honors versions of a course. Credit will be awarded only for the first course completed with a grade of C or better or "P." Field trips may be required. Recommended Prep: BIOL R101L or concurrent enrollment; eligibility for ENGL C1000; course taught at the level of intermediate algebra or placement as determined by the college's multiple measures assessment process. This course is a survey of the physiological principles, function, integration, and homeostasis of the human body at the cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, and organism level. Lecture explores the physiology of the integumentary system, bone, muscle tissue, nervous system, sensory organs, cardiovascular system, lymphatic and immune systems, respiratory system, urinary system, digestive system, endocrine system, and reproductive system. Laboratory experiments emphasize an understanding of physiological principles and introduce students to common techniques and instruments used in the discipline. Prerequisites: ANAT V01 or concurrent enrollment; and CHEM V120 or CHEM V101 or CHEM V104 or 1 year of high school chemistry with a grade of "C" or better.
