This course presents a survey and analysis of United States history from the Civil War to the present, with emphases on the role and history of Native Americans, changing United States Indian policy, and the interactions between divergent cultures. The course emphasizes basic American social, political, economic, and intellectual concepts and developments of the country in general, and the impact of/on Native American peoples in particular. This course will require students to explore, analyze, personalize, and discuss the following issues as they relate to the essential components of health and wellness: nutrition, physical activity/exercise/fitness, weight control, eating disorders and body image, media influences, mental health, stress, violence, substance use/abuse, sexuality and sexual orientation, sexually transmitted infections, reproductive choices/contraception, relationships, disease prevention, environment, health care, aging, and general public health issues. Students will be taught the knowledge and skills necessary to implement lifestyle behaviors that can improve their health and well-being. Recommended Prep: English course, one level below transfer, or placement as determined by the college's multiple measures assessment process. Formerly: HED V93; HED 93, PE 93.
