At the Ventura County Community College District, we appreciate your service to our country. We are here to support you, your spouse and your children, so that everyone can reach their educational goals at Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura colleges.

We offer a variety of degree and certificate programs so you can build on your skills. We also offer a range of support services to help you, all tailored specifically for military veterans, active duty service members, and dependents.

Each of our colleges has a Veteran Resource Center (VRC), where you can relax and hang out or access support services focused on your needs. Let us assist you in transitioning to the college environment and in achieving your goals.

Our Veteran Resource Centers offer personalized services to veterans, active-duty military, reservists, and eligible dependents in a welcoming environment:

Academic counseling, including transcript evaluation and developing education plans
Application assistance for admission and course registration
GI Bill® Enrollment Certifications - fee reimbursement, housing allowance (if applicable), and pre-enrollment guidance.
Priority Registration
Lounge for relaxation between classes
A study area for tutoring, studying or reading

We are here to serve you!

Military transcripts are accepted at Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura colleges. Once you have completed the application process, your transcript will be evaluated by your Academic Counselor and they will explain how units will be applied.

Veteran education counseling ensures that you or your dependents are taking classes authorized by the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) for your degree or certificate goal. Veteran education plans are personalized to the educational goal of each service member or dependent utilizing DVA GI BillⓇ Benefits. You need to complete an Education Plan every semester you wish to use your benefits.

Priority Registration For Active Duty Military & Veterans

Each college offers priority registration for classes to all veterans and members of the military. If you are using your VA educational benefits, you will automatically be entered into the system to receive first-day priority registration. If you are not using your VA educational benefits and want priority registration, you must present your DD214 or military ID to Admissions and Records.

Do I need to request my benefits each semester?

Certification is not automatic. To have your certification submitted to the VA you must:

Register for classes

Complete the Program Approval Form with a counselor.

Submit the completed form to the Veterans Certifying Agent in Admissions and Records at the start of each semester.

How do I avoid owing money to the VA if I make a class schedule change?

Always contact the Admissions and Records office at your college to report any change in your enrollment. Changes such as Add/Drop or Withdrawals, switching courses, etc. need to be reported immediately so that you do not end up owing money back to the VA.

What happens if I am deployed while I am attending college?

You can apply for military withdrawal.

Students requesting military withdrawal must present a written request for withdrawal and military orders verifying the dates and location of military assignment compelling withdrawal from classes to Admissions & Records.
Military withdrawal may be requested at any time upon your return to college.
Military withdrawals will not be counted as one of the three enrollment attempts allowed to achieve a passing grade, or in the calculation of academic progress for the determination of academic standing.

The Department Of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Education Benefits offers various GI Bills® for education programs. Make sure the education program you want to enroll in will be qualified for reimbursement under the GI Bill® you are eligible for.

Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) - 36 months entitlement

The Post - 9/11 GI Bill® is a new education benefit program for students who served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. You may receive benefits for any approved program offered by a school in the United States that is authorized to grant an associate (or higher) degree.

Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapter 30) - 36 months entitlement

The Montgomery GI Bill® - Active Duty, called "MGIB" for short, provides up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible veterans.

Montgomery G.I. Bill® - Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606) - 36 months entitlement

The Montgomery GI Bill® - Selected Reserve is an education program that provides up to 36 months of education benefits to members of the Selected Reserve.

An eligible reservist may get education benefits while in a program approved for VA training. This includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Reserves, as well as the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. It is the first program that doesn't require you to serve on active duty in the regular Armed Forces to qualify.

Vietnam Era GI Bill® (Chapter 34) - 36 months entitlement

Chapter 34 (VEAP) provided education benefits to individuals who served on Active Duty after January 31, 1955, and prior to January 1, 1977. The benefit expired on December 31, 1989.

However, Public Law 98-525 authorized the conversion of the Vietnam Era G.I. Bill® to the Montgomery G.I. Bill®. This conversion enabled many Vietnam Era veterans to qualify for benefits under Chapter 30. Vietnam Era veterans who think they may be eligible for this conversion should contact the VA Education Customer Service Office at (888) 442-4551. Press 1, if you have a touch-tone phone, then Press 0 (zero) to speak with an Education Counselor.

Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP) (Chapter 1607) - 36 months entitlement

REAP (Chapter 1607 of title 10, U.S. Code) is an education program that provides up to 36 months of education benefits to members of the Selected Reserves, Individual Ready Reserve (IRR), and National Guard, who are called or ordered to active service in response to a war or national emergency, as declared by the President or Congress.

VEAP (Chapter 32) - 1 to 36 months entitlement

VEAP is available if you elected to make contributions from your military pay to participate in this education benefit program. Your contributions are matched on a $2 for $1 basis by the Government. You may use these benefits for degree, certificate, correspondence, apprenticeship/on-the-job training programs, and vocational flight training programs. In certain circumstances, remedial, deficiency, and refresher training may also be available.

Veterans with disabilities are encouraged to connect with their college’s accessibility center. Whether it's Moorpark College’s ACCESS, Oxnard College’s EAC, or Ventura College’s DSP&S, our college accessibility centers offer academic accommodations for students with verified disabilities, including extended test-taking, disability management counseling, priority registration, liaison with campus offices and more.

The colleges also provide adaptive equipment with adjustable height desks, assistive listening devices, Live Scribe Pens, audio recorders, and specialized keyboards and mice.

Vocational Rehab (Chapter 31) - 48 months entitlement

The VetSuccess program assists Veterans with service-connected disabilities to prepare for, find, and keep suitable jobs.

For Veterans with service-connected disabilities so severe that they cannot immediately consider work, VetSuccess offers services to improve your ability to live as independently as possible.

There are assistance programs available so your spouse and children can attend college, too.

CalVet Fee Waiver

The California College Fee Waiver (CFW) program benefits the spouse and children of U.S. veterans. Students meeting the eligibility criteria may get their college fees waived if they attend a California Community College, a California State University, or University of California campus.

Eligible students can apply for the CalVet Fee Waiver at the VA office off Ralston Street in Ventura.

Dependents GI Bill® (DEA)(Chapter 35) - 45 months entitlement

Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA) provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans who:

Are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition.
Are hospitalized or receiving outpatient medical care, services, or treatment; and are likely to be discharged or released from service for this service-connected disability.
Are missing in action or captured in line of duty by a hostile force.

Died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition
