VCCCD Student Trustee

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
My name is Damaris Figueroa, and I am a first-generation student in my second year at Oxnard college. My major is Law, Public Policy and Society. I will become a lawyer and help minoritized populations break down walls and build bridges to achieve their dreams and aspirations. I believe my two years serving as Associated Student Government (ASG) President of Oxnard College has taught me a lot about understanding policies and procedures. I attend and understand the purpose and format of monthly Board of Trustees meetings and advocate on behalf of students. I have worked collaboratively with our sister colleges (Moorpark and Ventura) and understand that each college has different needs and its own diverse population. I have learned to delegate by being proactive in helping others and making sure the students' voices are heard. For example, the ASG organized the very first Evening Resource Fair at my college due to many evening students voicing their concerns of not having resources for them. This event served about 200 students, in which students became aware of the resources the college has to offer. I have seen and experienced firsthand many students' issues at each campus. Recently I went on a Washington DC advocacy trip where I had the amazing opportunity to talk to Senator Feinstein, Congresswoman Brownley, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Education. ASG discussed student issues we touched on topics including climate change, college affordability, basic needs, DACA student, and more. I am aware that I am not knowledgeable in every single issue a student may have, but in order to best serve students, I will ask students about their experiences and obstacles to make myself knowledgeable and voice these issues. For these reasons and many more, I believe I am the most qualified for this position.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
While I was ASG President at Oxnard College, I attended the Student Leadership Academy where the student leaders from all three colleges participated to discuss student issues at each college. I want to focus and take action on the issues that were discussed. For example, food insecurity, basic technology use, and extended hours for student services. For food insecurity I would work collaboratively on implementing food services in areas needed most; as for the other two issues discussed, I will seek out our stakeholders to find a solution together. If elected, I will work on these issues with each of the colleges to work together to better support students by having town halls, focus groups, and talking to my peers. I will also bring awareness to students regarding possible policy changes that might affect them. Recently our student parking fee was going to increase to $24 dollars per year. For many of us, this fee increase was equivalent to two meals at our cafeteria. We would have had to choose between eating lunch or parking. Thankfully the Associated Students of each college in our district spoke up and were able to reduce the fees to $12 dollars a year, so we can park and eat lunch. These are the goals I will strive to do if elected as student trustee.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
What I bring to the education area the holistic approach and regenerative approaches with solution based and idea based invigoration to ignite direction with a devotion to the student based learning environment. To provide flexibility and easement to their lives. As for skills. I am going to mention the willingness to learn and devote myself to provide uplifting and empowered solutions to all staff, personnel and students. The experience of being both an advocate and a leading community member for a better future for all. As I continue to fully embrace and immerse to a new field guided by professionals with love for their craft. Thank you.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
As a current ASMC delegate and congressional intern for Julia Brownley, I have a complex understanding of both the ways in which ASMC impacts student life and the influence that Moorpark College has on our community. From school dances to spirit days, I have had the opportunity to see how ASMC plans and organizes the many events held here on campus and I hope to use this experience to make our lives here at Moorpark College even better next school year. Throughout my life I have led clubs, teams, and student organizations, and the most important thing I have learned from all of these experiences is that it is of the utmost importance that people have their voices heard. If elected, I will use what I have learned to ensure that you as students feel truly represented at Moorpark College and that each of you can advocate for yourselves with complete confidence in ASMC's ability to make the necessary changes happen.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
I believe this past year's AMSC Board of Directors did a fantastic job. They organized numerous on-campus events, advocated tirelessly for us as students, and made sure that our clubs and organizations had what they needed to thrive. I would like to continue this with next year's board while also implementing new ideas from board members and members of our community, particularly when it comes to campus events. I would love to see clubs have the opportunity to lead themed spirit days, as I believe it would encourage greater on-campus involvement. We also have amazing resources like the Tutoring and Learning Center and the Health Center that I think are underutilized simply because many people aren't aware of how much is available to them through such resources, and having awareness days for these under-appreciated parts of our campus would ensure that our students take advantage of the many incredible things we have to offer. We as students also have far more power to make positive changes in our community than we typically realize, and so I am excited to help students here realize that potential and use the platform that ASMC has to create positive changes in our community.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
Having studied science, mathematics, and social sciences such as psychology, political science, and global studies as well as the performing arts, I bring a unique perspective to issues where choices are many rather than limiting to one or the other. I am a humble person despite being an achiever and I like to listen to the needs of the people. I also want students to get what they desire rather than just what is good for them. I am talented at resolving conflicts and disagreements by shedding light on various points of view and allowing people to speak freely as much as is possible.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
It must be acknowledged that times are changing rapidly in the post pandemic world. These changes require leaders to be flexible in meeting the challenges that are coming. Students have suffered in the recent past and I acknowledge that here. One of my primary goals is to help keep all the good aspects of the college while allowing for the growth towards more advanced degrees. Part of my plan for modernizing is to improve the Information Technology that is used. All students should have access to high quality display screens and learning environments that are not echo chambers like the cafeteria.
Part of having a good learning environment involves having comfortable chairs to sit in and a suitable place to do work. I have observed mostly the one size fits all furniture which is easy to clean but uncomfortable for most students. Many students attend online classes only and the software used by the school is not much different than was used 15 years ago. I advocate for better solutions that allow for more learning without distractions.
Furthermore, as regards the campus, I advocate for an end of fuel-based landscaping using rusting and smelly 30-year-old vehicles in a way that makes good economic sense. Specifically, I have a plan to provide for more shade by using redwood trees that do not emit debris continuously or have pollen that bothers people. Redwoods are drought resistant and resist disease from fungi and insects. The few redwoods on the campus have survived despite neglect. The roots go deep in the ground and they grow straight even in windy conditions. Trees and plants emit VOCs and contribute to air quality issues. Currently the maintenance staff has an obsession with the overwatered grass and making sure all the lights are working at the expense of the crumbling concrete where oxidized rebar is visible. I intend to let the staff become aware that the students need to be served and that the grass is much less important.Last and most important for the disenfranchised is the inadequate public transportation to the campus. I have already met with the transportation leaders of Ventura County, Moorpark, and Simi Valley and they admit that the systems do not work as well as they should and they acknowledge the schedules are less than ideal. They report not getting enough feedback from riders and I will form a taskforce and ask the leaders to come to the campus to get direct input from the students and staff, bringing parties together is required to have the future that everyone wants. Thank you for reading my statement.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
As a highly motivated and dedicated student, I believe I bring a unique set of education, skills, and experience that make me a strong candidate for the Vice President position at ASMC.

Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
If I were to be elected Vice President, I aim to focus and implement systems that focus on these three core concepts that strive to enhance the student experience.
I would focus on communication first and foremost. I'd like to see better communication between the student body and ASMC. I'd implement a system for students to provide feedback, ask questions, and offer suggestions. This would allow us to better understand and answer our classmates' needs and concerns.
Second, I would try to increase student involvement in campus activities and events. This can be accomplished through hosting more inclusive and varied events, promoting community service opportunities, and encouraging student-led projects. Increased participation would foster a sense of belonging and make the campus community more dynamic.
Mental health is an important issue affecting many students. I would work towards implementing mental health awareness programs, including workshops, events, and informational resources. These programs would aim to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, promote self-care and well-being, and provide support for those in need.

Juggling all these responsibilities enabled me to enhance my communication and organizational abilities and instilled in me the confidence to effectively address problems and advocate for practical solutions.
In addition to my involvement with the Associated Students, in the past year, I have been a member of MC L.E.A.D.S., Moorpark Honors Program, and was most recently named the Secretary of the Honors Club. These memberships have allowed me to hone my time management skills, refine my ability to collaborate with others effectively and establish valuable connections with Moorpark College faculty and staff.

To foster a sense of community on campus, I aim to organize a few cultural or academic trips throughout the year that will encourage students to engage with their peers. Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
I've been working as a student worker at the A.S.M.C. for almost a year. During this period, I've familiarized myself with all the aspects of the department when it comes to student leadership, such as helping students and their organizations with where to start with their club initiatives, how to set up their meetings and events, and address any concerns or doubts they may have during the process, which due to the vast amount of information our constitution and standing rules provide, the paperwork may end up being a little convoluted for students to apprehend at first sight; I've come to build that experience by simply being present in the office along with the current student government members with who I happen to exchange ideas and manage to learn all of the responsibilities from every and each one of their government positions. Moreover, I've also built a lot of networks with many of the different school departments and their faculty, as I'm required to reach them for any specific reasons I'm addressed for. Not only that but I'm also President of two different student organizations at Moorpark College, which makes me be even more involved with club activities as I'm supposed to guide my fellow officers through their board duties, organize club events, and advertise the clubs, promoting student and college life in the meantime; with all that being said, I could state that I have good qualifications for dealing with student government affairs once I get to know the process and student leader duties from both inside and outside as well as being aware of any problems, disadvantages and possible improvements on the student organizations' scope, giving me a good perspective on how to deal with students, clubs, and partnerships with other school departments.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
Since I'm applying to be the Director of Campus Events, I would primarily focus on promoting a bigger and more diverse amount of events that could embrace a different ambit of students and enhancing the advertisement for all the school events, as I believe the A.S.M.C activities don't really reach the whole scope of the campus students. Whether for the school's unfavorable campus geography (which ends up diverging students per major) or the different event themes that could be organized to attract different types of students, many of them don't manage to be aware, interested, or involved in any of the department's activities as much as they could. I would also try to organize different types of events, such as fundraising, partnership events with transferring schools, and workshops with companies willing to provide jobs or internship opportunities for students of different majors.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
I have numerous experiences in leadership and organizations that required me to step up. My current position in work requires to be highly organization and adept at intercommunication at all levels. As a Mentor to student I often have to deal with uncommon or uncomfortable situations that I had with quick execution while maintaining professionalism and emotional care. Besides, this I have worked at the Folklife Exhibits in Smithsonian, there I worked with designers, storytellers and philosophers alike, presenting curated arts that opened up discussions for artifacts history and cultural impacts, as well as more specific deep dives like sustainability and climate impact. Representing these artists and their histories, shaped me largely to both be a face organizations and affiliated creatives, but also to adapt to anything thrown our way. As an outdoor collective, we often had to deal with changes whether depending on the venue, schedule changes, miscommunication or even a unexpected weather disaster. This required that I be naturally resourceful, taking the initiative to help and take leadership, but also handle any conflicts with grace and understanding. I also have numerous experiences with working with fundraising initiatives, presenting local climate projects, and raising over 500 dollars through my Awards in Girl Scouts. I even proposed fundraising program for UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, raising donations for children in need.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
Working in many governmental positions during my education, I have served as a member of Speech and Debate, and working as a Co-president for my own Forensics team. This means I will have both the organization, time management and communication skill necessary for a position of this caliber. I would love to a system that streamlines communication with state and local levels of leadership, knowing how difficult it can be to get in contact with those positions. I have high tech literacy and am proficient with taking on all legislative matters. Having worked with clubs and students, both in one on one, and group settings, I think I would be a great match to comfortably connect with students on ideas, whether it be a question, idea for a club, or even something personal.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
Back in high school, I founded one non-profit organization (This was a graduation requirement for the International Baccalaureate program at GHC High School) and cofounded another one. Although I led the charge on one of the organizations, I assisted in social media and website construction for both. In this role, I handled most of the outreach, post, project planning, and networking under the name of these organizations. Outreach is something I’ve always been happy to act on, and it forms a meaningful connection. When it comes to educational background, I partook in the International Baccalaureate back in high school, which taught me crucial leadership/collaboration skills.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
One Idea I would like to implement is club/sports highlights throughout ASMC's Instagram account. The Instagram for ASMC is fantastic, but there would be club opportunities that I've almost missed due to a lack of coverage. This by any means isn't a huge problem, for many of the clubs on campus seem to be thriving within this regard, but increasing accessibility by providing club/sports highlights is a good way to engage more of our student body on campus. Of course, I wouldn’t do this all on my own, if I were to be elected as the Director of Public Relation, I would work closely with the entire cabinet to make our campus a hot spot for student activity. I also want to assist in the planning of this incredible campus event ASMC produces. Not only are they fun, but they are also educational and relevant to the student body, an example of this would be the Safe Sex/Consent event back in February for Valentine's day. On the topic of outreaching, I would love to engage in providing more field trip opportunities for our students Although PR would play a surface-level outreach role, I'd be more than happy to put the opportunity on the table.

I've switched majors more times than I care to admit. But I'm just a regular student, ready to fight for our rights as students and make the most of this post-Zoom world we're living in. It feels good to be back on campus and connected with humanity again.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
I want to let you know that as your representative, I will be able to take your requests and voice them to the people who need to hear them. I want to hear from all students - about your experiences, what makes you feel safe, what makes you feel unsafe, and what you want to see change on campus. We all need to vent sometimes, and I'm here to advocate for all of us. And by the way, have you guys met Clarence the 100-year-old turtle at the campus zoo? Let's make sure he stays safe too, because who else is going to spill the tea about what really went down in the Great Depression? So don't hesitate to share your thoughts with me, whether it's about campus safety or Clarence's well-being.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
I served in the Associated Student Government for two years, so I learned more than I thought I would when I started. I learned not only how ASG work but also about the college itself. I am confident in organizing events because I have led and spearheaded multiple events since high school. I also have tons of experience with regards to advocating because I represented the student voice at different levels; I served in both campus and district-wide committees. I even got a chance to advocate for student needs at the Federal level when we went to Washington, DC.
As a president, it is significant to have the ability to work and communicate effectively and efficiently with other board members. As a person who has been in multiple ASG positions (Senator, Secretary, Vice-President), I have a vast knowledge of the responsibilities of each board position. Due to this, it is easier for me to communicate and guide them. I also believe that a good leader is a good listener. I value listening to students and board members to keep a welcoming and supportive environment during my term. Moreover, as an Engineering major, I am not a stranger to problem-solving, which is beneficial for the position I am running for.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
If elected, I would like to focus on the 3As: Advocate, Act, & Advertise. As a student leader, I want to continue advocating for students' voices and rights. I will do this as a President by ensuring there's a student representative on each campus and district committee. I would also do listening campaigns and open forums to communicate with the students in terms of their needs, issues, and concerns. That way, I could advocate for them more effectively.
Act means walking the talk. After listening to the concerns/needs, I would like to create a solution or be part of the solution. To do so, I will keep a \constant communication with departments and resources on campus. I will build a strong connection with the staff, faculty, and executive. Another way is by making programs and events. I know food insecurity is one of the biggest battles students go through on a daily. So, I want to continue the Meal Voucher Program and have Feed the Condor events at least twice a month.
Lastly, I would advertise ASG. There are lots of events ASG creates, but if it's not reaching the right students, it defeats the purpose. That said, I would like to boost ASG's social media accounts and do more tabling events so that students get to know the board more and eventually have them participate in ASG events.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
I am organized, determined, goal-oriented, and I like to work with others. During my time at Oxnard High School, I have always partaken in classes that were AP and honors classes, all beginning my freshman year. I continued to challenge myself in my education as I entered my first year in college, and have maintained a 4.0. Experience-wise, I am currently in an internship with UCLA and Oxnard College, in which I will encourage the youth in Oxnard to participate in taking a survey. The survey will help the youth in future generations that struggle with issues in employment, health, and education by enforcing improvement or the creation of programs. Being part of this internship has made me develop skills like communication with faculty, socializing with the community in Oxnard, and working with others to complete a task. Apart from that, I am always looking for opportunities to get more involved on campus, and this is the perfect opportunity to do that. I am excited to be part of a club that will open new opportunities for me while also helping other students.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
My goals for this club which I will strive to implement if I am elected to this position will focus on helping students who are struggling and do not know the resources that are available to them. I will not only target people who are struggling but also Oxnard college students who are not involved in the activities in school, from which they can benefit. From personal experience, I did not know the services that Oxnard College provided for students until I started spending more time on campus and attending activities that are hosted by clubs. My goal is to inform students about the services provided for them so they can take advantage of free opportunities that may not be available when they transfer to a university. For the purpose of improving the academic, cultural, and social life at Oxnard College.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
Some educational skills I will bring to this position is that I am currently majoring in Business Administration and by this means I will be able to apply the mathematical and business concepts to help aid in how we can use the money more efficiently and create budgets. There are some great websites that can help with this. I can also contribute my effort to the other positions when in need. I currently work with an Upward bound program at Channel Islands High School, and we are always seeking ways to be a part of the community, researching upcoming festivals, clean up’s , or just any community service that we can offer for our students. I honestly was never the type of student being involved, but I want to make a difference in my community and school. And be an ally to those who might also be in the same position.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
One of my goals is to attract more students to become part of the activities here on campus. I want to break the cycle of coming to college and leaving home after our classes are over. To create an environment where students feel part of and will enjoy participating. Joining a club, helping others, and learning new cultures can really help you learn and grow as a person. They can even make your life at Oxnard College more fun and exciting. My hope is for students to feel this way while being on campus. As a director of budget and finance we can create templates for clubs to present their ideas, with a description, and a budget they think of requesting. This will also help us as students get an idea of how the companies function when requesting budgeting proposals. I also think being involved with the community and our minority groups will make a big difference. We can be the connection between our students and the community. Sometimes many of us have the desire to help and we just don't know how to do it.

As a Mathematics major, I will bring my love for math to the Associated Student Government and handle the financial responsibilities with my most outstanding care. I have experience handling money all the way back to my high school years. I now utilize these numerical skills for my Future Teachers Club as the Treasurer and ensure our club utilizes the money effectively. Furthermore, some experiences I have gained from being involved with Oxnard College are working for TRIO, Upward Bound, and volunteering for the Associated Student Government. Through these endeavors, I have been able to plan and run various College events and make connections with various staff and faculties. As a first-generation Hispanic student, I showcase dedication and perseverance, working my way through my academics and aspiring to be a math teacher. I would also like to bring a warm, encouraging spirit into this new work environment and ensure that my peers and I work together as a team to ensure students have the best experience at Oxnard College.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
As a first-generation College student, I have faced many financial literacy struggles, and I have unfortunately had to learn the hard way how to utilize money fully. I see this struggle emerge throughout the Hispanic and Latino communities. I plan to fix this issue within Oxnard College by planning and working towards financial literacy workshops in order to ensure Oxnard College's students are fully educated on what is needed financially to live here in Oxnard and attend universities. As Director of Finances, I would like to ensure students are fully aware of finances and overall how to complete one's taxes. Additionally, by understanding students can fund their home life and education, my goal of students succeeding is present.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
Applicating educational experience throughout community college, I have been able to spread awareness through the connected resources I've collaborated with located here at Oxnard College. Currently, as a student worker with TRIO Upward Bound, I've created advertisements for instance spirit week recognition in uplifting our local high schoolers during the summer break and uploading scheduled events on our main Instagram platform. In addition, collaborated with the coordinator of the Rainbow Resource Center in creating flyers for the opening availability of the RRC and promotion of the Rainbow Cafe for student mental health associated with the LGBTQ and Allys community. For the TRIO First Gen Club as secretary, I've been able to spread information revolving around campus resources, events, and informational meetings for both chair and fellow members of our main socials. Lastly, worked with fellow peers in the TRIO SSS Program in hosting a raw podcast platform about mainstream topics revolving around our society called Sidepiece, additionally uploading on streaming services such as Spotify. The podcast spectrum of topics stems from the stigmas around marriage, Latinx /Hispanic culture revolving around generational trauma, and mental health to what social media platforms we use now compared to middle school! Overall the two years spent with friends here at Oxnard College, I got to learn to be intertwined with the student population, the results were immense in experiencing the definition of inclusivity, uncomfortable conversations for building structure, and understanding the best solutions for student recognition. I hope to continue this path in gaining insight into our student populations on campus, openness in learning, and continuing to spread the welcoming nature of Oxnard College to the next group of students to set on campus!
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
Once elected ideas to implement within the position, to advocate for spreading awareness of the school-to-prison pipeline within our community. I never truly understood how the k-12 educational system had a dysfunctional system once reaching the community college level. Dysfunctional such as not enough funding for impoverished schools affect the educational outcomes for success in our local community such as choosing early onset crime. Impacting first gen youth to feel unsupported, lonely, and unaccepted causes dropout rates to increase, increasing deviancy resulting in expulsion or suspension, and the push-out attitude from staff. I would love Professor Ortiz to pose a summary of the school-to-prison pipeline and how it's being replicated in our society. If possible a documentary screening of the school-to-prison pipeline to spread among our college students to recognize and resonate with this experience, in order to pass this knowledge to relative youth who are experiencing this right now locally in their schools today. In addition, for women's appreciation to shine the light on figures who have been a part of historical events in our country would be to establish a movie screening of Dolores Huerta. A screening of the significance of a woman being the backbone of the labor movement, and her story being a single mom sacrificing one job for another. The goal for this project would hopefully keep in touch with our women in the liberal arts & humanities population, advocate for women in political affairs, and students who are parents can find resilience in a figure who has experienced setbacks but prevailed in society.

I have had the privilege to serve as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Associated Student Government (ASG) this academic year, and thanks to that honor I am well informed of how this position works, who to speak to on-behalf of the students, and how to best serve the students at Oxnard College. With the experience and feedback from the students this academic year, I will plan better and exciting events on campus. The purpose of these events is to get students engaged and have fun, meet new people, learn new skills, have a sense of community, and have something to look forward to when they arrive to campus. I aspire to make students feel a sense of pride and joy in their “second home” here at Oxnard College.
The following sentences will describe my goals with a bit more detail. Goal-#3 is to help students make connections here on campus as well as network with their fellow peers and have a sense of trust and community with one another.Goal#4 I want to make this amazing college the place every student can call there "second home" knowing that their voices are heard and taken to heart, the home were they feel safe to be themselves, the place were they can grow and learn with one another, the place were they know they belong and can always come back knowing that we hear there needs. Goal#5 This is a personal goal of mine because I relate to it, which is helping those who have never been giving the opportunity to grow i have been sheltered most of my life and have always had doubt about myself going into higher education always telling myself it's not for me or even a possibility, but thanks to the support of this college i want to break that mentality in others and show them that higher education is more than a possibility it is an opportunity to show this world who you are and were you stand in this great place we call home.

Throughout my community college experience, I have made it my focus to not only find a sense of community and belonging in this very new environment, but to contribute to Ventura college students in finding their footing and providing them with the resources needed to do so. This is accomplished in collaboration with the various clubs I oversee here at Ventura College as the current Director of Student Clubs and Organizations. Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
As a computer engineer, my career revolves around finding creative solutions to complex problems and during my experience as Director of External Affairs in the 2022-23 school year, I learned how to work through many complex situations. When planning events for ASVC, I had to start from scratch and create new connections with different companies, departments, and individuals in order to join them together and help them work together towards a common goal. I learned how to carry myself in a professional environment and speak as a representative of Ventura College so that I could request services, coordinate activities, and provide the students an activity that represents the passion I have for serving my community. I am extremely hard working, and often stay awake late into the morning working on events, posters, emails, homework, and hobbies that always include learning a new skill. With the mental attitude of " if it isn't done right, it shouldn't be done at all" as my driving force, I will advocate for students and work to improve student quality of life mentally, physically, and spiritually. I hope to foster a community where everyone works together towards a common goal of success with the desire to inspire change, and the platform and tools to do so.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.

The idea is to increase student engagement with their student government and at the same time allow them to have a direct impact on the planning and execution of events.ASVC Crew will hopefully lead to greater student involvement and recognition of campus services and issues that impact students every day. I would also work with my board to survey for issues that affect students in order to better represent Ventura College at the SSCCC General Assembly. I enjoy representing a college that puts its students' voice at the front of every decision and I am willing to put in the effort required to make sure they are heard.

Question 1. What education, skills, or experience would you bring to this position?
As someone who already has experience as the current Director of Administration, I feel that my background being in this position would help immensely. I know exactly what is to be expected from this position as well as the responsibilities and duties that come with it. With the main responsibility of this position being to take notes (otherwise known as minutes) in meetings, it is crucial to actively listen to every meeting and to be able to record the discussions held in detail. Alongside that, the person in this position is constantly typing at a fast rate in order to keep up with the conversation at hand and also notes any important details from the discussion. After having a lot of experience with these aspects over this entire academic year, I believe that my previous experience can help the fluidity of future meetings. In addition, with my familiarity on how the meetings can be fast-paced and experiencing them first-hand, I understand the skills needed to perform the tasks well in an optimized manner.
Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
If elected to this position, there are a few ideas that I would like to implement to this specific position of the Director of Administration. I believe that there should be set deadlines specifically for the Director of Administration to complete their tasks. The position works with curating agendas and minutes, which can be a time-sensitive matter. In order to hold accountability for this position and to also uphold the Brown Act, I think having those deadlines set would be good. It would not only keep everything more organized, but it is also time-efficient in many aspects. I think that it would also be beneficial to have the President and Vice President trained in using BoardDocs (the software used to create agendas and minutes). In the case of any emergency the Director of Administration may be going through, having others in the meeting trained in using BoardDocs can be very helpful in keeping on schedule with the meetings as well as completing the tasks in time (that the Director of Administration would have otherwise done). It can help ease the workload, and it stays true to the whole principle of student government: to ask help when needed and to work collectively and collaboratively as a team to lead the student body.

Question 2. Describe specific goals, ideas, or programs you would strive to implement if elected to this position.
I want to redo the VC budget to make it more understandable to anyone that is looking at it for the first time. I want to help VC's growth with student engagement and help make a difference anywhere I can. I have a lot of projects I want to continue to work on to make improvements to our campus.
