Dual Enrollment lets students pursuing their high school diploma or equivalency take college classes early—earning both high school and college credit at the same time, without paying tuition. Courses are offered on local high school campuses through district partnerships and directly at Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura colleges. The program creates an early pathway into higher education, helping students build confidence, explore career and academic options, and take meaningful steps toward a degree or certificate—especially those who may not yet see themselves as college-bound.

Why It Matters
Dual Enrollment is more than just taking an extra class—it’s a proven way to help students succeed. Students who participate in Dual Enrollment are more likely to graduate from high school, enroll in college, and complete a degree or certificate—a finding cited in the 2025 Dual Enrollment PASS Report.
Participation is growing quickly across Ventura County. In 2019–2020, fewer than 4,000 students were taking Dual Enrollment courses; by 2024–2025, that number rose to more than 7,000. Many students join through after-school, online, or on-campus classes, and all three colleges are now adding more in-school options to make access even easier for families.
How It Works
Dual Enrollment works through partnerships between local schools and the community colleges in Ventura County. College classes are offered in different ways—some are built into the school day at the high school, while others take place after school, online, or on the college campus.
College and school teams work closely to help students choose the right classes, make sure they are supported, and help them plan for the future. The goal is to give students a strong start toward college and career, while they’re still in school.
Early College On-Ramp Strategy
The district is working on new ways to make Dual Enrollment even more valuable for students. One plan in progress is called the Early College On-Ramp Strategy. This approach gives students a clear starting point with three key classes: a college readiness and/or career exploration course, transfer-level English, and transfer-level math.
These classes are designed to build confidence and meet important college requirements early. They can be offered during the school day, right on the high school campus, at no cost to students.
By starting with these building-block courses, students will have more options to explore career interests, earn college credit, and get on track for a degree or certificate—before they even graduate high school.

This tool is designed to bring all the registration steps into one place, so students, families, and schools can complete forms and approvals more smoothly. A pilot program is already underway, with the goal to expand countywide in 2026.
With DualEnroll.com, students will spend less time on paperwork and more time focusing on their classes and future goals.
