Maureen Sheldon
Maureen comes to VC with 20+ years of administrative experience, including 16 years spent in education serving students at the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management, as well as those at the Oxnard Union High School District and Cate Boarding School. In these roles, she supported management in implementing a wide range of initiatives to facilitate students' academic, personal, and professional goals.
She has a strong affinity for those in the military, as she has immediate and extended family members/relatives who have served in the Navy, Army, and Naval Intelligence. Several years ago, Maureen left the educational field to work for both the County and City of Ventura to gain a broader understanding of the region’s mission and goals, in addition to being able to engage with a larger cross-section of our community and serve specific areas of public need.
She is excited to return to academia and support opportunities for our Veterans and their families, and to provide guidance and assist with a broad range of resources, including educational degree and certification programs, on-the-job training, VA Benefit applications, tuition reimbursement, and functioning as a liaison to other community groups.
Maureen holds a B.A. from California Polytechnic State University, with a focus in Public Administration. In her free time, she enjoys ‘all things outdoors’, multiple sports as a participant/observer, and spending time with her family, and golden retriever, who takes her for daily walks!

These Shining Lives | April 26 - 30
"These Shining Lives" by Melanie Marnich
It's the roaring 20s and gender norms have started to shift. Four young women celebrate their new-found freedoms as employees of the Radium Dial Company, decorating watches and clock faces with a new invention, glow-in-the-dark paint. As decades pass and a toxic truth begins to emerge, the women struggle to hold the company accountable for stealing their health by valuing profit over safety. Based on the true story of the Radium Girls, "These Shining Lives" illuminates the spirits of these ordinary women whose courageous battle for social justice continues to resonate in the laws that protect today's workers.
