Ventura College: Temporary Suspension of College

Dear Ventura College Students,

Due to ongoing high winds and the resulting power outage, Ventura College is currently without power and Ventura College East Campus is currently without internet access. Both campuses will remain closed until further notice. We are coordinating with Southern California Edison and appropriate personnel to restore normal operations as soon as conditions permit.

While in-person instruction, campus services, and scheduled activities and events are suspended, our goal is to maintain educational and operational continuity wherever safe and feasible. Certain instructional, administrative, and student support functions may continue remotely or through alternative arrangements. Campus access will be limited, with designated personnel maintaining essential functions related to safety, facilities, and operational recovery.

Instruction and Student Services

In-person classes and campus-based services are suspended during the closure. Online instruction and services that do not depend on campus facilities may continue unless otherwise communicated by the appropriate faculty member or supervisor.

Faculty should communicate with students regarding instructional expectations and necessary adjustments, recognizing that some students may also be experiencing power outages or other disruptions.

Communication and Resuming College Operations

We will resume normal campus operations once facilities and essential systems can safely and effectively support students and employees. Please continue monitoring your college email, the college website, and official social media channels, particularly before traveling to campus.

We will provide our next update by today, 7:00 PM, or sooner if conditions change.

For the latest information, please visit https://www.venturacollege.edu/alerts.

We recognize that these circumstances affect members of our college community differently and appreciate your patience, flexibility, and continued commitment to one another.

Thank you,

Ventura College Administration

Update: 10/15/2026 12:21 p.m.

Potential Power Shutoff at Ventura College

We are writing to provide an important update regarding the high wind and fire weather conditions affecting our area.

Since our previous communication, conditions have changed. Southern California Edison (SCE) has notified Ventura College that a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is now expected within the next four hours due to elevated wildfire risks associated with high winds. While power has not yet been interrupted, this notification increases the likelihood of disruptions to campus operations. At this time, Ventura College remains open.

The safety and well-being of our students, employees, and campus community remain our highest priority. We are closely monitoring developments, coordinating with the appropriate personnel, and preparing to make operational adjustments as conditions warrant.

We strongly encourage all students and employees to monitor official college communications, particularly before traveling to campus. Should a power shutoff occur or a decision regarding campus operations be made, we will communicate that information as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and commitment to the Ventura College community.
