After careful review of the Institutional Self-Evaluation Reports and evidentiary materials submitted by each institution, the ACCJC determined that each college “is in substantial compliance” with Eligibility Requirements, Accreditation Standards and Commission policies for reaffirmation.  An 18-month review of recommended improvements noted in the evaluations followed by a visit to each campus by Commission representatives will be scheduled.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are pleased with the findings of the ACCJC,” stated VCCCD Board Chair Bernardo Perez.  “The Board is proud of the hard work the colleges put forth in the self-evaluation reports and look forward to supporting the college presidents in meeting any recommended improvements suggested by the ACCJC,” added Perez.

The ACCJC’s Eligibility Requirements and Standards may be found on the ACCJC website at www.accjc.org.

Sincerely,
Dr. Bernard Luskin
Chancellor

REPORT OF THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE TASK FORCE ON ACCREDITATION (2015)

California Community Colleges Chancellor Brice W. Harris Comments on Release of 2015 Chancellor’s Office Task Force Report on Accreditation (August 28, 2015)

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California Community Colleges Chancellor Brice W. Harris issued the following statement on today's release of the report by the 2015 Chancellor's Office Task Force Report on Accreditation:

"I'd like to thank the task force members for their work on this document. I generally agree with the findings and believe that it is in the best interest of our 2.1 million students that we begin a conversation focused on changing the way our colleges are accredited in the future. Regional accreditation is vitally important in helping to ensure academic quality, but the current approach is not serving our colleges and students well. I look forward to discussing these recommendations with our shared governance body and with the Board of Governors to seek their input."

DISTRICT COLLEGES RECEIVE CONTINUED AFFIRMATION OF ACCREDITATION

On February 7, 2014, Ventura College, Oxnard College, and Moorpark College received notification that the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) has reaffirmed accreditation for all three colleges. The decision to continue affirmation of accreditation was based on college midterm reports submitted to the ACCJC in October 2013.

"The Presidents and I are pleased that the colleges remain fully accredited and that we have responded to Commission recommendations successfully," stated Chancellor Jamillah Moore, Ventura County Community College District. "It is the result of a team effort that involved many individuals and groups Districtwide." Ventura College President Greg Gillespie commented, "This is exciting news for our campus. The reaffirmation of accreditation demonstrates our continued focus on student learning and improvement."

The next comprehensive evaluation for accreditation is scheduled for October 2016. The District Board of Trustees expressed appreciation for staff's hard work. Board Chair Art Hernández noted, "Although our next accreditation visit is not until 2016, the District and colleges are continuing to maintain compliance required by Commission Standards. Faculty and staff are committed to excellence in serving our students and the community."

ACCREDITING COMMISSION CONFIRMS VCCCD COLLEGES' ACCREDITATION
February 2013

Ventura County Community College District is pleased to announce that Ventura College, Oxnard College, and Moorpark College have been removed from probation status and returned to full compliance with accreditation standards. All three Colleges are in good standing with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (Commission), the accrediting agency that ensures its member institutions meet required institutional standards recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.

At its January 2013 meeting, the Commission took action to remove Ventura College and Oxnard College from probation and reaffirmed accreditation. Moorpark College was also removed from probation, and its accreditation remained reaffirmed.

Board Chair Bernardo Perez commended faculty, staff, and students. "This is the news we have been waiting to hear. The Board is extremely grateful to the Colleges and District community for their diligent contributions in providing successful responses to the District recommendations." Chancellor Jamillah Moore commented on the findings, stating, "In the spirit of continuous improvement, College and District staff and the Board worked together to ensure compliance in all areas recommended by the Commission. It was a team effort that resulted in a rewarding outcome."

As part of the regular accreditation evaluation cycle, the Colleges are required to submit midterm reports to the Commission in October 2013. The midterm reports will demonstrate sustained changes and improvements, address how accreditation recommendations have been resolved, and describe progress on College-identified recommendations for improvement.
