Moorpark College invites community members to “Explore Your Future” on March 14 at its 3rd Annual Spring Festival. During the family-friendly event, attendees are encouraged to explore the college, its Child Development Center and America’s Teaching Zoo.
“This event is always so much fun for adults and children of all ages,” said Kristen Robinson, a student activities specialist at Moorpark College. “We look forward to watching children’s delight as they experience our beautiful campus, play at the Child Development Center and are introduced to the animals at the Zoo.”
At the free open house, held 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., attendees will engage their inner adventurer at interactive booths, live musical theatre and dance performances, and more. Children will enjoy face painting, a bounce house, games and prizes. There will be electric train rides and a dinosaur encounter, too.
Families can also take part in Moorpark College’s 30th Annual Discovery Day, a fundraiser hosted by the campus’s Child Development Center from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The Center provides early care and education for children, enhancing their personal and physical development. Program faculty and students will lead young children in developmental exercises, while families enjoy raffles, food trucks, live music and yoga. Children can “mine for gold” in the sandbox, make “BLOB” come to life, craft “ice-sculptures” with a variety of “doughs,” create and race their ships, “buy groceries” in the Center’s store, and interact with many other hands-on fun activities. Extra added attractions include a silent auction, face painting, book fair and a visit from the toymaker Gene West.
Admission to Discovery Day is $5 for adults and children over 10; $8 for children ages 1-9; babies are free.
Moorpark College’s Spring Festival also takes place in conjunction with the opening day of the 30th Annual Spring Spectacular, an annual event at America’s Teaching Zoo where guests get a behind-the-scenes look at exotic wildlife. Attendees can watch animal presentations, have up-close animal encounters and meet the Zoo’s rescued tiger cub. Attendees can also watch bug shows, hold bugs and meet them at Bug Ology. The Zoo’s Spring Spectacular takes place from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Mar. 14, 15, 21 and 22. Admission is $8 for kids and seniors, $12 for adults, and free for kids under age 2.
All the events will be held at Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark.
