VCCCD would like you to get to know the staff and faculty who contribute their time, talent & education to the success of our students. We will regularly highlight employees across all four campuses, sharing their professional expertise, their educational path, and a few fun facts about them.
Jonas Crawford, Athletic Director, Oxnard College

What does that entail?

I must ensure that all Condor student-athletes are provided maximum opportunity and support for achieving their academic goals. In addition, I provide the best possible environment for each student-athlete to compete to the fullest extent of his or her capability; establish support systems enabling student-athletes to become well-rounded, mature, and responsible citizens; and encourage student-athletes to assume leadership roles both on campus and in the community.

How long have you worked for the District?

12 years

Were you a student at one of the District’s colleges and if so which one? What was your major and your degree?

I went to Cuesta College, then transferred to San Diego State University for my bachelor’s degree in business marketing/management. I lived and worked in Japan for four years and returned to California to earn my master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University in physical education.

Are you from the area and if not where are you from?

I’m from San Luis Obispo.

Share something personal about yourself:

I’m married to the love of my life, Ritsuko. I have two boys who attend Oxnard College: Tristan is a STEM student (in year three), and Leo is a freshman from Rio Mesa High School enrolled at OC. I played golf at SDSU and now enjoy fishing around the Channel Islands.

What do you find rewarding about your job or career?

I love to see our athletes use their passion for sports as the vehicle that propels them to their goals.

Two words to describe yourself:

Value people

Do you do any volunteer work? If so, what?

I try to be a good mentor for people around me.
