VCCCD would like you to get to know the staff and faculty who contribute their time, talent & education to the success of our students. We will regularly highlight employees across all four campuses, sharing their professional expertise, their educational path, and a few fun facts about them.

Jeremy Hanes, Performing Arts Center Tech 1 and lead tech at Oxnard College’s Performing Arts Building

Describe your position in 2-3 sentences:

I am one of the luckiest people I know. My job allows me to serve the college and the community doing what I love. I get to facilitate students, faculty, staff, and the community when they are in the very vulnerable position of being on stage. I teach students technical skills in the theater and support the technical aspects of events and performances. I see people at their best!

When people ask me what I do, I tell them, “I make your event and performance dreams come true.”

How long have you worked for the District?

I started at Oxnard College in August 2019, right before the pandemic started. Before that, I worked at Moorpark College in their theater as a provisional Performing Arts Center Tech 1 for about a year.

I went to Moorpark College as a theater major, and I am planning to return to school for the spring 2023 semester to finish my associate degree.

When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy spending time with my daughter, Luna. She is 7 years old and a bundle of energy. We like to go to the beach, explore the world together, and play a little too much Minecraft. She is the beginning and end of every day, and I couldn’t ask for more.

What do you find rewarding about your career?

The most rewarding part of my career is being able to facilitate rock-star moments for the amazing people who don my stage in all types of events, from speeches and lectures to musical events and kids doing their first performance. I support people as they grow and have an experience that changes them forever.

Do you do any volunteer work? If so, what?

I often volunteer my time for community theater to support local artists.

Two words to describe yourself:

Ambitious and optimistic

Bonus Question: What’s your favorite snack?

My favorite snack is the one offered to me!
