About the Department

The Police Department has the primary authority for providing police and security services, including the investigation of criminal activity, to the campuses of the Ventura County Community College District.

In August 2000, the Ventura County Community College District Police Department received accreditation by the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) which regulates the selection and training of police officers.

The Police Department has a staff of approximately 34 full-time and part-time employees, distributed among the three college campuses, located respectively in the cities of Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura. Our personnel are dedicated to maintaining a friendly and helpful environment at each of the campuses.

The Ventura County Community College District Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency that subscribes to the standards of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Our officers receive the same basic academy training as municipal law enforcement agencies throughout the state, in addition to specific training to meet the unique needs of the campus community.

Police officers regularly attend advanced officer training courses to keep them current with the latest law enforcement practices and methods and to meet statewide P.O.S.T. training requirements. All officers are armed and possess the same authority under the law as other municipal officers. The Police Department is open from 5 am – 12 am Monday through Thursday, and until 11 pm Friday through Sunday. The department enforces all applicable state laws.

The officers of the Ventura County Community College Police Department work closely with members of the Ventura and Oxnard Police Departments, and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department as well as other state and county departments. These close relationships allow us to share pertinent information to prevent crime and to provide coordinated police and safety services.
