Accessing Online Activities in Canvas from a Desktop or Laptop Computer:

Please use either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to access the course from a desktop or laptop computer. Safari, Internet Explorer, and Edge are not supported browsers for Canvas, so please do not use them. Follow these links to download the most updated versions of Google Chrome or Firefox. 

Once you have downloaded a web browser, you can access your courses in two ways:

• In the MyVCCCD Portal, select "Canvas" under "Everyday Tools,” use the Canvas Widget on the Dashboard, or search for "Canvas" in the top search bar.
• For direct access to the VCCCD Canvas login page, go to https://vcccd.instructure.com.

Accessing Online Activities in Canvas from a Mobile Device: 

When accessing Canvas from mobile devices, such as phones or tablets, please use the Canvas app.

Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura colleges offer convenient access to higher education and learning opportunities through Distance Education. Distance Education students can take online courses and partially online courses. Students who sign up for Distance Education should be familiar with using technology on a daily basis, own their own computer or tablet, have consistently strong internet connection from their home or study place, manage their free time well, and meet deadlines and project goals consistently. Distance Education requires students to, at times, be very independent. Please research Distance Education carefully before signing up for a course.

We've simplified the process into these easy steps:

• Step 1: Ask, "Am I Ready for Online Learning?"
  • Tour the Introduction to Online Learning module. We recommend using the "multi media presentation" for the best experience. There are also text- and audio-only options available for your convenience.
• Step 2a: Get Tech-Ready
  • Make sure you are Tech-Ready for an online course. As with the Introduction to Online Learning above, we recommend using the "multi media presentation" for the best experience, and the text- and audio-only options are available for your convenience.
• Step 2b: Run the Computer Readiness Test
  • We recommend that you check your computer's operating system, browser, and plug-ins to ensure everything is updated to their latest versions. You can find all of this information by clicking "start test" on the Computer Readiness Test page.
• Step 3: Apply
  • Apply to one of our three colleges on the California Community College Apply site.

• Step 4: View the Online Course Schedule
  • o    Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura colleges offer a variety of online and partially online courses that are available to view in the Online Schedule of Classes. Descriptions of the modes of instruction offered are located on the Map Your Future page. 
• Step 5: Enroll
  • Stay on top of important registration dates! These dates are listed on the  Map Your Future page.
  • You will be notified in your MyVCCCD Portal when it is your time to register for classes, so keep an eye on the notification bell!  Your Registration Appointment Time will also appear in the Registration and Payments page in the MyVCCCD Portal and you will receive reminders in your MyVCCCD email inbox.  
  • o    When it is time to register, go to the Registration page in the MyVCCCD Portal.
• Step 6: Review the Student Canvas Orientations (optional) 
  • You are welcome to take our Student Distance Education (DE) Orientations to familiarize yourself with Canvas:

All online classes are held to the same academic standards as traditional courses. Each of our colleges also offers Student Support Services (tutoring, learning resource centers, libraries, etc.) that can assist you in a variety of ways. Yes, students can take a variety of different classes at the same time whether they are fully online, partially online, or in person. Students can also take classes at more than one of our colleges at the same time. We suggest that you meet with an Academic Counselor to see which classes and modes of instruction work best for you. California Virtual Campus is a new program available to help you succeed! If you need a class to graduate or transfer that isn't available at your home college this term, you can now register for that course online at community college campuses statewide!

You no longer need to apply to another college to take online courses from them!

Go to the CVC website, select to limit to courses with "Instant Enrollment," and search for the course you want. When you find a course that works for you, click the "Add Class" button to register for the course.

All tuition fees are charged at the VCCCD course rate. If you have financial aid or grants through VCCCD, they transfer to the CVC course as well.

It's your responsibility to drop from a class by the refund deadline to qualify for tuition and/or fee credits. After your class has been dropped, a refund request can be submitted to the Student Business Office on your campus. Refunds cannot be authorized for drops or withdrawals after the deadline. Enrollment fee refunds are subject to a $10 administrative fee.
