DREAM Act Evening (AB540) - Financial Aid Event

Come visit with the Ventura College Financial Aid Office as we discuss the California Dream Act and the resources available to make the dream of higher education a reality. The event is free and open to anyone. We will discuss AB540, the California Dream Act, the Cal Grant, the Board of Governor's Waiver, college aid that includes scholarship and the VC Promise. Don't miss out on this event! If you will be graduating high school in June, you must submit your CA Dream Act and GPA verification by March 2, 2017!

Representatives from Financial Aid, Admissions & Records, Counseling, EOPS and MESA will present information, and we will also have members of the “IDEAS at VC” student club sharing their stories.

To quote a joint statement issued December 20 by the California Department of Education (CDE) and the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), “…in light of recent events, there could be confusion regarding the California Dream Act program, which allows certain undocumented and out-of-state students (“Dreamers”) to receive state financial aid while attending colleges in California. The California Dream Act is a state law, separate and distinct from the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Regardless of what happens at the federal level, state financial aid for Dreamers remains legal in California."

We stand with the Chancellor’s office in aiming to reassure students that “our campuses will remain safe, welcoming places for students of all backgrounds to learn” and we are happy to provide this forum for educating Dreamers on college resources, including financial aid, to make the dream of higher education a reality.
