Economic Development

The Division of Economic Development is a district operation that was established on September 1, 2009. All economic development personnel, initiatives and contract education projects previously maintained at the campuses were consolidated into one division now housed in Camarillo, California, at the VCCCD District Administrative Center. We are committed to helping California businesses and organizations stay strong and competitive. Our purpose is to actively promote and support the growth of the state's economy by providing employers with consultation and customized training that allows them to maintain a capable and effective workforce.

Mission

Our mission is dual-fold: To provide quality, low-cost corporate and community learning opportunities. We use various educational platforms to deliver education and training across Ventura County including customized training, group and cohort training for industry certifications, short-term pre-apprenticeships and Adult Education services.

The intent of the division is to add capacity to the Ventura County Community College District by providing labor market analysis for program development in high-impact industries and occupational clusters; while contributing to the delivery of in-demand educational programming that provides access to post-secondary education and training resources for non-traditional and modern students. Thereby exposing the the non-traditional and modern students to educational opportunities at each of the District's three Colleges and fostering a culture of lifelong learning.

Corporate Training

The Economic & Workforce Development Division offers regularly scheduled, group-based education aligned with industry certification for incumbent workers seeking to enhance their skills. We also are able to customize training needs to fit the diverse demands of the modern workplace.

Community Education
As modern society has evolved, so have the educational needs of our community. In effort to effectively serve the greater Ventura community, the Economic & Workforce Development Division provides Pre-apprenticeship education in association with our local unions and industry partners, and Adult Education programs, seeking to create greater access to quality education and training for all community members.

Our target population is the non-traditional student, or below post-secondary adults with barriers to employment. These programs use the "not-for-credit" platform to attract students who are not already being served through the colleges, and create college and career pathways for these community members using Pre-apprenticeship programs and Integrated Education and Training through Adult Education.

These students receive job placement services and educational support services as they move into employment and continue through their educational path. Instilling a culture of lifelong learning is a priority, thus we expose all students to collegiate programs of study in their career pathways as they move through training, and provide increased access by having them register in CCC Apply.
