The Moorpark College Art Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by artist Kim Kei. Process oriented, Kei creates sculptures, photographs and paintings from collections of worn and distressed everyday objects. She begins by making complex sculptures, which are then photographed from varying perspectives. A multitude of photos become the foundation for her paintings. The intricate improvised compositions are abstract in the sense that they are unnamable, while referencing realism in the detailed examination of the forms. The work is a departure from the figure as a form, yet in its absence the body is implied.
Ms. Kei received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She exhibits her work with Bustamante Gill gallery in Los Angeles, and has been reviewed in publications like Juxtapoz and Artillery magazines. To learn more about Kim Kei, please visit her website www.kimkei.com.
