Dreamers Set Your Course

Wednesday, January 31, 2018 - 6:00pm

Ventura College and the Financial Aid office will be hosting our annual Dreamers Set Your Course events. These events will allow students and families to learn about the valuable resources and information to help them achieve their higher education goals. Please join Ventura College and the Financial Aid Office as we support our AB 540 student population. We will be holding two workshops specifically targeted to Dreamers: January 31st at Ventura College, and February 1st at Ventura College East Campus from 6:00-8:00pm.

Representatives from Admissions & Records, Counseling, EOPS, VC Foundation and Tutoring will present information, and we will also have members of the “IDEAS at VC” student club sharing their stories.

It is important that we continue to remind students and their parents that “the California Dream Act is a state law, separate and distinct from the federal DACA program”. Losing DACA status will not affect state financial aid eligibility, and “information provided via the California Dream Act application is used solely to determine eligibility for state financial aid and is not shared with any other governmental agency”.https://www.cde.ca.gov/nr/el/le/yr17ltr0221.asp

We stand with the Chancellor’s office in aiming to reassure students that “our campuses will remain safe, welcoming places for students of all backgrounds to learn” and we are happy to provide this forum for educating Dreamers on college resources, including financial aid, to make the dream of higher education a reality.
