SYNOPSIS:As the anniversary of the most mysterious and tragic maritime catastrophe of the twentieth century approaches, The Watch that Ends the Night: Voices of the Titanic paints a vibrant picture of the many souls included on the maiden voyage of the legendary R.M.S. Titanic and her journey into human history. Adapted from the novel by Allan Wolf and juxtaposed amongst eye-witness accounts, this breathtaking tour de force marks the end of the Age of Innocence and man’s arrogance at the possibility of creating heaven on earth. Told through varied viewpoints spanning class and station, the production uses the personal narratives, telegraphs, and undertaker reports interspersed with interviews, trial transcripts, and other survivor accounts to blur the line between spectator and participant as theatre patrons play an active role boarding the ship by class and sailing across the Atlantic. Although the outcome is no surprise, this theatrical reenactment leaves the audience hopeful for an alternate conclusion to the infamous and inevitable disaster.
