You are cordially invited to a State Budget Hearing next Friday, Feb. 5, 2016 at 10:00am in LA-6.
State Budget Hearing at Oxnard College
Based on legislation I authored last year, I am proud to announce that the 2015 Budget Act provided $60 million for a one-time incentive grant program aimed at improving community college remediation practices, called the Basic Skills and Student Outcomes Transformation Program.
Almost 75% of entering California's community college students are deemed unprepared for college-level work and in need of basic skills courses. The goal of this program is to increase the number of these students who complete basic skills, enabling them to pursue a college certificate or degree.
Community College districts can apply for these grants to help them adopt or expand the use of evidence-based models for basic skills assessment, placement, instruction, and student support.
I am hosting a budget hearing at Oxnard College on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. to discuss implementation of the program and provide information on how districts can apply for the grants.
For more information or to RSVP, please contact my Oxnard office at (805) 483-4488.
