Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Philosophy, mission, and goals of community colleges;
Goals, policies, regulations, and methods related to effective
curriculum and student services program development and implementation,
program/class scheduling, and needs assessment for instructional
programs and student services;
Current theories on teaching and learning, including
multicultural issues that affect instructional and student support
programs and services;
Emerging technologies and the applications of technology to education;
Implementation of technological solutions to instructional needs and administrative problems;
Employee contract administration and effective problem solving;
K-12 districts and colleges, local and state decision-making bodies, local business and industry;
Fund-raising techniques.
Ability to:
Provide leadership to, and work effectively as part of, an
educational leadership team that fosters and promotes trust and
respect;
Be an effective and persuasive spokesperson and advocate for Moorpark College, its students, its programs, and its future;
Demonstrate success in achieving goals and objectives consistent with the California community college mission;
Foster an environment in which teaching and learning are
central to the college mission and encourage ongoing curriculum and
program development, including alternative teaching methods and
techniques that meet the needs of a diverse student population;
Oversee the development and implementation of a complex budget
within the provisions of the California community college fiscal
environment, with a commitment to long-term fiscal stability;
Provide visionary leadership for the continuing development of
student-oriented Master Plans that drive the budget process, resource
allocation, and facilities and technology planning utilizing a
collaborative consensus-building process;
Demonstrate an open, inclusive management style and delegate
within a participatory governance context, a commitment to academic
excellence and innovation in a teaching-learning process and advocacy
for comprehensive curriculum, and a record of accomplishment in higher
education;
Demonstrate a proven leadership style that builds trust and
consensus and is characterized by empowering others, team building,
open communication, and accessibility;
Demonstrate commitment to equal opportunity and intercultural
cooperation, and respect sensitive communication with people who are
diverse in their cultures, language groups, and abilities;
Develop strong community relations and involvement.

Preferred Qualifications
A Master’s Degree or
equivalent from a regionally accredited institution (Doctorate
preferred); senior administrative experience in community colleges,
and/or other accredited, post-secondary educational institutions and/or
comparable business and industry; experience in and commitment to
multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environments, with proven ability to
bring disparate groups together in the pursuit of common goals; some
teaching or non-classroom faculty experience.
Proven record of:
Student-centeredness and sensitivity to the effects of all decisions on students and the campus community;
Serving as ardent supporter of the comprehensive community college and a person who models life-long learning;
Successful experience in administrative responsibilities and sound fiscal management;
Accomplishments in academic and/or student services program
development, enrollment management, facilities construction, and
strategic planning;
Integrity and honesty in personal and professional interactions;
Being a leader who fosters cooperation, does not micro-manage but is committed to personal and staff accountability;
Serving as advocate of participatory governance with a demonstrated ability to forge consensus on difficult issues;
A management style that empowers others through team building and thereby promotes trust and collegiality;
Demonstrated ability to work within the framework of collective
bargaining and address issues and resolve grievances in a timely manner;
Demonstrated understanding of the role of a community college president
in a complex, diverse higher education environment and multi-college
district.

especially in the areas of basic skills development, technology, and
alternative instructional delivery;

Actively broadens and strengthens the fund-raising role of the
foundation; promotes and supports the collegial and team spirit
