Oxnard College is mourning the loss of chemistry instructor Joe Escobar, who suffered fatal injuries in a traffic accident near Rose Avenue the morning of Thursday, August 6. Mr. Escobar had taught chemistry classes at Oxnard College for several years and had worked for the Ventura County Community College District since 1997. He previously taught classes at Moorpark College.
The Escobar family held a public memorial service on Monday, August 10, at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo.
“He touched so many lives over so many years,” his widow, Deborah, told the Ventura County Star. “We wanted to give those people an opportunity to attend.”
He is survived by his wife, Deborah, and sons Steffan, 23, Kollin, 21, and daughter Amara, 15.
In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a fund for his children at Ojai Community Bank, 402 W. Ojai Avenue, Suite 102, Ojai, CA 93023.
In addition, Oxnard College chemistry department chair Luanne Crockett has offered to collect donations from Mr. Escobar’s colleagues and former students at Oxnard College and deposit them at the Ojai bank where the fund was established. For more information contact Ms. Crockett at 805 986-5800, ext. 1925, or through her email address. |
