VENTURA COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT TO HOST
TEACHING AND PRACTICING GREEN CONFERENCE
Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) is hosting a Teaching and Practicing Green Conference on Friday, November 20, 2009, from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, 600 E. Esplanade Drive, in Oxnard. The event is being held to promote a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities that business, industry, and educational institutions are facing in this new and emerging field. Members of the Planning and Sponsoring Committee for the event include Moorpark, Oxnard, and Ventura Colleges, VCCCD’s Division of Economic Development, Senate Bill 70 Program, Workplace Learning Resource Center, various Ventura County high school districts, the Regional Occupational Training Center, Coastal Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), and members of organized labor.
The event begins with breakfast, followed by a panel of experts that will discuss the sustainability movement. Panelists include representatives from Gills Onions, the Green Innovation Zone/Ventura County Economic Development Association (VCEDA), and the Limoneira Company. “We specifically selected panelists who are considered experts within the sustainability movement, and we are looking forward to a very worthwhile exchange of ideas and information,” stated Marnie Melendez, Coordinator of School to Career Programs, Oxnard College. Dr. Jaime Casillas, VCCCD’s Dean of Economic Development, stated, “One of the main objectives of the conference is to provoke thinking among educators about the new curriculum that business and industry will need to prepare and maintain a green workforce.”
Teachers, counselors, administrators, and business and industry representatives will benefit from attending the conference. For reservations, please contact Marnie Melendez at (805) 986-5984 or mmelendez@vcccd.edu. |
